Golden State. Cleveland. Houston. OKC. Boston. Even Minnesota to a lesser degree. All teams that were constructed with the notion that the more superstars you have on your roster, the better chance you have to succeed...aka Super Teams. It's hard to argue the concept of "Super Teams" seeing as how 5 of the last 6 championships were won by a super team, but is it a better option than developing players the way that organizations like the Spurs, and Golden State have done (KD made Golden State a super team in my opinion. Before that they'd developed the picks into superstars). I know Miami has joined the player development movement, but I feel it's been mostly out of necessity. Personally I feel like it's been a blessing in disguise that Miami has had to take this route. Much has been gained in terms of chemistry, as well as the satisfaction of knowing that success that has been achieved, was achieved organically.
I know for others, the idea of having a team comprised of All-Star free agents would be a dream come true. Having been a Heat fan through both types of scenarios now, I can honestly say that rooting for a super team is cool, but there's a different type of pride attached to rooting for a team that has been developed from within the organization.
I wanted to create a thread where this topic could be discussed more in depth. I feel like super teams aren't going anywhere anytime soon, but is it really the best way of going about your business of being a contender? I'm really curious to find out what you guys think is the best route to take for a franchise and it's fan base.
